Description
‘Do you give a damn about the world?’ In this ‘sleeping fit’ dated 7 October 1922, Péret evokes the motifs of the tree and the flower with which he identifies.
‘Do you give a damn about the world?’ In this text that won the distinction of being published, Péret literally goes astray, returning repeatedly to the motifs of the tree and the flower with which he seems to identify. But the obsession never ceases to weave itself among other themes (the street, the car, drowning), provoking an intense emotion as witnessed by what one might call ‘stage directions’: ‘push the table’.
As for Breton, he seems to attempt to set off the power of revelation – even of divination – that seems to be in play alongside these visions, by returning to the fray with a question these first ‘sleeping fit’ sessions often ask: ‘what do you know about me?’ But the ‘medium’, to borrow the language of Les Pas perdus, does not reply...
