Autograph manuscript by André Breton dated Christmas 1962.
Signed Autograph manuscript, Christmas 1962.
- 1 page in-4° ‘Foreword (Delayed Dispatch)’, first draft manuscript, with erasures and corrections, dated and signed by Breton, of his foreword to the 1963 reprint of Nadja.
"This is particularly the case with Nadja, due to one of the two main 'anti-literary' imperatives that this work obeys: just as the abundant photographic illustrations are intended to eliminate any description [...] the tone adopted is that of medical observation, among other things neuro-psychiatric, which tends to scrutinize everything that examination and questioning can yield."
"Throughout the course of a human life, subjectivity and objectivity are engaged in a series of clashes, from which the former often emerges in a bad way. After thirty-five years (the patina of age is interesting), the minimal attention that I give to the latter only demonstrates a certain regard for a better way of saying things, which is its only significance, with the greater value of the former (which continues to matter so much more to me) residing in love-letters riddled with mistakes and in 'erotic books full of misspellings'."
