Description
Letter from Pierre Molinier to André Breton dated 19 March 1957.
Pierre Molinier, long based in Bordeaux, was one of the painters most loyal to Breton. He had something of a facetious character, as can be seen by reading some of the poems he addressed to his friend in the letters and drawings gathered here. In one of the texts he defines himself as ‘a compound of three characters’. Over the course of letters covering the period 1938-1963, we see him talking about his painting along with more intimate questions - divorces, money problems. Over time, he increasingly sought Breton's advice on his latest paintings - which is why we have beautiful reproductions, unfortunately in black and white. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
