Text accompanying a comic strip to be published in Arts from 28 December 1951 to 8 February 1952.
From 28 December 1951, readers of Arts were introduced to a kind of comic strip, arranged in vertical columns. The artist was Braig and the scriptwriters, André Breton and Benjamin Péret, two beginners who were not without talent... This ‘Illustrated Life of Pablo Picasso’ borrows as much from the genre invented nearly a century earlier by Christophe as it does from the medieval vitae of Jacques de Voragine and the stained glass windows of cathedrals. Taking a biographical approach, as opposed to a scholarly reading, allows us to view the work from the inside, as it were, by taking account of the others, friends who were sometimes surprised by certain of the saint’s gestures… This small dossier includes some of Braig's illustrations, which were not included in the Pléiade collected works (Alentours II, in the third volume). Printed proofs and handwritten corrections, undated [1951].
