Description
"La Toge, a drawing by Aloïse, comes from Jacqueline Porret-Forel who had a close friendship with her from 1941 to 1964. It had been exhibited in the basement of the Galerie René Drouin on the occasion of the first Art Brut exhibition in November of 1947, and this is where André Breton first discovered the artist. Impressed by Aloïse's work, he wanted to buy two of her drawings. These were eventually presented as a gift to him (with the agreement of Jacqueline Porret-Forel) by Jean Dubuffet."
