Handwritten manuscript by Pierre Naville (according to the experts for the 2003 auction) or by André Breton (according to the website editor in 2005).
Apparently unpublished, this dream by Breton puts André Gide and Jacques Copeau centre stage – with their names, deformed by a third spectral one, ending up evoking Dr Jekyll et Mister Hyde... The manuscript can be dated to the 1920s, which would be corroborated by the place where it was archived; Breton was still reasonably close to Gide at this time, but would see him less and less as time went on. Handwritten manuscript (circa 1923)
- 1 large in-4° manuscript page, with title, in green ink by Pierre Naville.
‘I am eating at a restaurant, feeling rather anxious, as though all around me any action was really impossible. Suddenly turning around, next to the wall and leaning on the table I see A. Gide, who recognizes me. I go over to him. He says to me “ah ah so it’s good to be with the princess”.’
