André Breton's handwritten notes from 1940.

‘If there were nothing but war’... And these notes, torn from the notebook in which Breton had cast them during the spring of 1940, are indeed notebooks from the phoney war. We can see almost completed poems among a few names of students or colleagues from Poitiers (where Breton was an auxiliary doctor) and a fleeting mention of the large section in italics inserted in Fata Morgana: ‘A great man engaged along a perilous path’. Draft poems, names of soldiers and two astrological themes.
