Author René Crevel

Description

Manuscript and handwritten letter by René Crevel, probably dating from the early 1930s.

A few scattered pages from René Crevel, probably dating from the late 1920s since the salutation is to Breton and ‘Simone’ who separated in the autumn of 1929. At the same time, the reference to a ‘Czech journal’ suggests instead the early 1930s, and the first contacts with the Prague group: Breton may therefore have filed away a range of correspondence in the same folder. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]

Handwritten manuscript and handwritten letter signed, in folder titled René Crevel by André Breton, Davos, sd. In a folder titled by André Breton ‘René Crevel’:
- 3 pages in-12 folio, handwritten in purple ink by René Crevel:
‘I greet you, having risen so high, when the peace of the rivers could not kill your pride, risen without concern for the lashes or the tears the fish get out of the habit of crying. It’s a woman in wire who holds the silks fringed with wear. White on green = ocean.’
- 1 page in-4°, handwritten letter dated ‘Tuesday, Davos’ and signed in ink by René Crevel to André Breton relating to the text described above:
‘Here’s the text for the Czech review about which Péret wrote to me saying that it should be sent urgently. Here it’s very dull. One day Giaco[metti] came and it was a especially beautiful day, since he was there, and we talked about all of you . But we'll see each other again soon. I'll be back soon.’ [sale catalogue, 2003]
