Description

Handwritten lists of names of artists, writers and paintings, undated (circa 1962).

Between two invitations, these are lists intended for the 1955 republication of the two manifestoes of Surrealism [sic]. In addition to portraits of his friends and some of the people mentioned in the texts, there are lists of paintings to which André Breton attached such importance that he wanted them reproduced; these latter lists were perhaps intended for Sabine Weiss's photographic reportage illustrating Alain Jouffroy's feature published in L'œil in the autumn of 1955. [(sic) Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
