Description
First draft of a manuscript by André Breton, finally entitled ‘Cavalier Perspective’ and published in La Brèche in October 1963.
‘Lowbrow’, impressionism and fauvism... not to mention the ‘derisory’ Parnassus! In this ‘Cavalier Perspective’, first entitled ‘Even So’, published in the issue 5 of La Brèche in October 1963, which will become the title of a collection of his essays, Breton endeavours once again to put the surrealist adventure in perspective by emphasizing its internal coherence and the continuum since the romanticism in which it inscribed itself. This necessarily leads him, in a spirit recalling that of the first Manifesto, somewhat to mistreat the schools and movements that interrupted this continuity. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
Handwritten manuscript signed, Saint-Cirq Lapopie, August 1963.
‘Qu'à cela ne tienne’, 1 page in-4, handwritten in ink by Breton with numerous erasures and corrections, constituting the first state of the greater part of a text later published in issue 5 of the journal La Brèche in October 1963 under the title ‘Perspective Cavalière’. [sale catalogue, 2003]
