Description
Manuscript dated May 1938 of a lecture that was to have been given in Mexico City on 3 June 1938.
Entitled ‘The Work of Art and Philosophical Thought’ by the editors of the second volume of the Pléiade collected works in which it appears, this lecture given in Mexico City in May 1938 [sic] returns to a romantic and materialist heritage and to a certain history of thought proposed by Marx and Engels. Breton, while remaining in the same lineage, makes his differences heard, in particular by noting the honour of the utopians of the nineteenth century towards whom – as competition demands - the creators of scientific socialism had been severe.
