Description

Manuscript archives of the meetings of the Bureau de recherches surréalistes of 22, 23 and 26 October 1925.

In the space of a few meetings, from 22 to 26 October 1925, the committee bringing together the members of Clarté and the surrealists appeared to be getting organised; absences were sanctioned, note was taken of those unavailable to provide their signatures, such as that of the young Raymond Queneau, who had been called up for military service. Aragon and Breton proposed a motion: “Revolution can only be conceived by us in its economic and social form”, which implied moving closer to Communism. On 8 November a text along these lines appeared in L'Humanité, repeating some of the wording of the motion. The members of Philosophies group, when they didn't ‘skip’ the meetings, were less radical than their friends from Clarté and the surrealists. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
