Description

Manuscript of a preface by André Breton dated 19 December 1950 for an exhibition of Henri and No Seigle at Greuze in 1951.

Henri and No Seigle: a couple of painters who worked together on the same canvas. They met André Breton in the mid-1940s. He entrusted them with the alveolus dedicated to the Condylure, ou taupe étoilée (The Star-Nosed Mole) during the international exhibition of surrealism organised at the Maeght gallery in 1947.

The text presented here is the preface written by Breton for their solo exhibition at Greuze (1951). [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]

Signed autograph manuscript, 19 December 1950.

One handwritten page, titled, dated, and signed in black ink by Breton, with erasures and corrections:

"They embody that hour of the year when the earth imperceptibly relaxes the arm folded under its head before opening its eyes...

"Send us springtime again. Eat some rye bread." [Auction Catalogue, 2003]
