Manuscript of a text by André Breton for an exhibition by Edgar Jené at the Nina Dausset Gallery in December 1948.
A "bird's soul" with magnificent colours: presenting Jené's painting in this little preface dated 1948, Breton rediscovers the accents of automatic writing in order to express as closely as possible the truth of a work which, freed from all rational constraints, is itself close to automatism. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
Autograph manuscript, 21 November 1948.
1 page in-4° handwritten in blue ink on the reverse side of Cause letterheaded paper, dated and signed by Breton:
"The art of Jené, this lyrebird on the gypsum pane of a grotto window overlooking the first meadows of fire in bloom, in a head slung for an aurora borealis..." Some erasures and corrections. [Auction Catalogue, 2003]
