A hardback folder illustrated with a vignette drawing by Nadja and André Breton’s monogram, dating from 1926.
1713: when it is handwritten this number resembles André Breton's initials (AB). Associated here with Nadja, it could also be linked to the figure of Berkeley (his Dialogues of Hylas and Philonous quoted in Nadja was published in 1713). We find it in various manuscripts, such as this notebook from 1923-1924 given in Alentours II (Oeuvres complètes, volume I). [Atelier André Breton website, 2005]
Hardback folder (32 x 24.5 cm) included on the cover is a vignette in black ink with the legend 1713 (Breton’s monogram) with an original ink drawing (10.4 x 10.7 cm) representing a mermaid’s tail that was part of one of Nadja’s drawings:
A double sheet on Montgolfier vergé paper is inserted in the folder (32 x 24 cm). [sale catalogue, 2003]
*This entry was translated from the French by Michael Richardson.
