Description

Manuscript signed by André Breton, dated 22 February 1955. "All the sacredness of the world", linked to the "certainties of an Orphic tradition": in this text from February 1955, partly inspired by Grosse's study on wash-painting in the Far East, Breton introduces into his personal references the Chinese notion of Tao, which seems to him to resonate with the (re)discoveries of Surrealism, particularly with regard to "the intimate soul of the painter". [Atelier André Breton website, 2005] Autograph manuscript signed, dated 22 February 1955. - 1/2 page in-12 handwritten, dated and signed by André Breton: "These marvellous monodies, by what miracle have they come to us from the depths of the ages? …All the sacredness of the world and also the certainty of an Orphic tradition transmitted in a more elective and mysterious way than any other are held in this unique ember that palpitates in the voice of Taos.” [Auction Catalogue, 2003]
