Description

"Although he was born in 1932 in Fontenay-sous-Bois (France), it was above all the Finistère region of Brittany which marked him, its sober but violent colours never ceasing to pursue him. He turned up in Paris in 1946, where he was influenced by Gauguin and the Arts Sauvages. After having a poetic experience of an obsessive nature, he and Pierre Jaoüen exhibited symbolic frescos where the time-space concept was integrated with that of cosmic signs. But shortly thereafter, the materiel itself of his canvases became the fixative for these symbols. His final period is characterised by extremely bracing colours, counter balancin the fundamental pessimism of his work ard contibuting to a feeling of exorcism." Robert Benayoun (Milan, Galerie Schwarz, Exposition internationale du surréalisme, 1961, s.p.).
