Description

Handwritten and annotated list of the names of artists and collectors, dating from 1959.

The organisation of the International Surrealist Exhibition at the Daniel Cordier gallery in 1959-1960 called for considerable logistics, as evidenced by this selection of pages. We notice that the majority of works were borrowed directly from the artists themselves, but that a certain number of galleries, particularly from abroad, were also approached. Among the collectors we see the names of people affiliated with surrealism, but also individuals with whom Breton and his friends had maintained more chequered relations, such as Georges Bataille.
