Description

Letter from Henri Pastoureau to Breton dated 17 March 1947 and filed in the ‘Surrealism in 1947 exhibition’. 17 March 1947. Henri Pastoureau, who was to collaborate closely with Breton for several years (until the "Pastoureau Affair" in the early 1950s), accompanied this letter with an article intended to preface the catalogue of the exhibition Le surréalisme en 1947, scheduled for July at the Maeght gallery. In addition to the question of Trotsky, which clearly shows the extent to which politics remained at the heart of the movement's thinking in the post-war years, we see the appearance of an anti-religious militancy, which was Pastoureau's hallmark and that would form the substance of the 1951 ‘affair’. [Atelier André Breton website, 2005] Autograph handwritten letter, 17 March 1947. 1 page in-4° handwritten, dated and signed in ink, of a letter from Henri Pastoureau to André Breton, in which he announces to Breton his contribution to the catalogue Le surréalisme en 1947. [Auction Catalogue, 2003]
