La photographie pourrait faire partie de la série utilisée pour illustrer Nadja, et datée de 1962. Elle serait allors d'André Bouin. [2003]

 

Buste du dramaturge Henry-François Becque (1837-1899) par Auguste Rodin, exécuté en 1883 puis reproduit et inauguré en 1908 place Prosper Goubaux, Paris (limite 8^e et 17^e arrdt, à Villiers) non loin du lycée Chaptal.

Photo ajoutée à la nouvelle édition de Nadja en 1963.

« Même si cela ne fait pas honneur à mon discernement, j'avoue qu'il ne me paraissait pas exorbitant, entre autres choses, qu'il arrivât à Nadja de me communiquer un papier signé "Henri Becque" dans lequel celui-ci donnait des conseils. [...] Mais je comprenais fort bien, puisqu'elle était attirée par le buste de Becque, place Villiers, et qu'elle aimait l'expression de son visage, qu'elle tînt et qu'elle parvînt, sur certains sujets, à avoir son avis. » (André Breton, "Nadja", Pléiade, vol. Nadja’s original drawings from 1926 in graphite and ink on a double sheet of laid paper folded in two.

Drawings, sd [1926].
A double sheet on Montgolfier laid paper (32 x 24 cm) is appended to the folder [lot 2123_1].
- On the first page of the first folio is an original drawing in ink titled ‘Mazda’.
In the edition of Nadja, André Breton wrote:
‘She liked to imagine herself as a butterfly whose body would be formed by a ‘Mazda’ (Nadja) lamp towards which a charmed snake would rise. Since then I have been unable to look at the luminous Mazda poster on the main boulevards without blinking uneasily.’
A sketch of a drawing by Nadja representing a butterfly is on the same page with a note by Breton that it is ‘to be deleted’.
On the second and third pages there is an original drawing by Nadja in black pencil entitled ‘À mort’, which was reproduced in the 1928 edition of Nadja under the title ‘The soul of wheat’. [sale catalogue, 2003]
