Description

Letter dated 31 January 1966, about a never to be published text whose projected title was What will my room be like at the journeys’ end?

Following Xavier de Maistre, without a particular order, with this splendid title for a never to be written book: What will my room be like at the journey’s end? The intended subject was the treasures in a certain studio located at 42 rue Fontaine. But Breton's last project, elaborated in complicity with Albert Skira, never appeared. The writer would have included in it reproductions of paintings and objects he owned, or no longer owned, such as Picasso's Head, or the Child's Brain , which had been sold a few years earlier. Perhaps the Atelier André Breton site is the delayed realization of this half-imaginary museum, which we would today call virtual, in a form the poet could not have imagined.
